Updated for Kolkata on 9 September 2026. Buying building materials online works best when the platform helps you find relevant dealers and you still verify the specification, quantity, invoice and delivered cost. Use digital comparison to organise the purchase; keep the final quotation and delivery terms in writing.
Step 1: Prepare a purchase requirement
List each material separately with the information a dealer needs to quote accurately.
| Material | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Cement | Brand/product, OPC-PPC-PSC type, bag quantity and delivery date |
| TMT steel | Brand, grade, diameter-wise weight and bar-bending schedule |
| Tiles | Product code, size, finish, measured area, boxes and shade/batch requirement |
| Paint | Product, shade, pack size, litres and number of coats from the painting plan |
| Plywood | Grade, thickness, sheet size and quantity from the cutting list |
| Bricks or blocks | Type, dimensions, piece count and unloading arrangement |
Use the building material calculator for early planning, then have structural and execution quantities checked against drawings and the BOQ before ordering.
Step 2: Choose the relevant Kolkata category
- Cement brands and dealers
- TMT steel brands and dealers
- Tile brands and dealers
- Brick and block suppliers
- Paint brands and dealers
- Plywood brands and dealers
- All building-material categories
Examples visible on SmartStructure on 9 September 2026 include UltraTech, ACC, Ambuja, JSW and Nuvoco for cement; Tata Tiscon, SAIL, Shyam Steel, Rashmi and SRMB for TMT; and Kajaria, Somany, Johnson, NITCO, RAK and Orientbell for tiles. Stock must be confirmed with the dealer.
Step 3: Confirm delivery to your site
SmartStructure represents dealer coverage across North (Dum Dum), East (Salt Lake), Central (Park Street), South (Behala) and West (Howrah). A zone listing does not mean every dealer covers every pin code.
Share the exact site pin code and ask about minimum order, delivery slot, truck size, road access, loading, unloading, carrying charges and rain protection. Large vehicles may need advance planning on narrow or busy Kolkata roads.
Step 4: Compare dated quotations
Price guidance is useful only when the product, date and delivery basis are clear. Request quotes on the same day and compare the total amount payable at site.
- Exact product name, grade, size or code
- Quantity and quotation unit
- Quote date and validity
- GST and invoice status
- Freight, loading, unloading and carrying charges
- Delivery date and payment terms
- Shortage, damage, cancellation and return policy
Do not compare a per-bag, per-kilogram or per-square-foot rate until the included costs are identical. Write the landed unit cost beside each quotation.
Step 5: Verify before payment
- Check the dealer identity and the invoice name.
- For structural materials, match the engineer-approved specification.
- Confirm manufacturer markings, packaging, batch or test documents as applicable.
- Use a traceable payment method and keep the quotation, invoice and payment record.
- Avoid full advance payment where the commercial terms and delivery are unclear.
Step 6: Inspect the delivery
Count or weigh material using the agreed method. Match brands, grades, sizes, batches and pack quantities with the invoice. Note shortages or visible damage on the delivery record before the vehicle leaves. Store cement, tiles, plywood and other moisture-sensitive products in a protected area.
What online comparison can and cannot tell you
Online category pages help you discover brands and dealers. They do not replace structural specifications, physical product checks or a written transaction record. Prices and availability can change quickly, so SmartStructure does not promise a fixed saving or treat an undated rate as today’s price.
